Extremely well written and a great asset to any D7200 owner
By M. Stevens
I have been a hobbyist photographer for several years and although I mainly shoot in Aperture Priority and Manual Mode, I know there is still a lot I do not know about my camera and I'm always looking for opportunities to learn more about photography. This was my first DSLR Guide so I wasn't sure what to expect. First of all there are almost 500 pages of content! David has done a REALLY great job of providing a resource for both new and seasoned photographers alike. The book starts out with the very basics of the D7200 but quickly begins to cover in detail every single button, feature and menu item on the camera (which in itself is an incredible feat). David provides his suggested settings and throughout the book and even tells you why he recommends them. There are photos and examples on almost every page of the book that illustrate the feature or show where on the camera that particular feature is found. So far I'm 1/2 way finished with the book. I've already learned a lot from this book and am excited to finish the rest of the book and learn about the features and settings that I am not as familiar with. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any photographer!

The best book I could have purchased, prior to buying the Nikon D7200. Saved me MONEY!!!!!!!
By Partylights
I found this book to be the best purchase ever!!!! I determined what camera I was going to purchase first, then bought the book. I am a beginner when it comes to photography. I purchased a SLR digital camera several years ago and hated it. The quality of the pictures were terrible even using the automatic settings. I am hosting a German exchange student and decided I needed a new camera. I received the book and read most of the book and played very close attention to the section on recommended accessories that should be considered for purchase. The most important section to me was on lenses. I was able to determine the best starting lens for me was the AF-S DX ZOOM-NIKKOR F/3.5-5.6 G VR II. The book save me a lot of frustration, disappointment, and money by helping me make my decision on a lens before buying the camera. I was able to find a camera package that included this lens on Amazon from Cameta Camera.

The book is easy to read and understand for a beginner like me. I have also purchased the following books; David Busch's Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7200 and David Busch's Mastering Digital SLR Photography, Fourth Edition.

Not only the best camera guide I've ever read, possible the best product guide I've ever read.
By C. Feldman
I don't actually enjoy writing reviews, which is why, out of the all-too-many items I buy on Amazon, I only come back to provide reviews when something is really bad, or really good. In the case of David Busch's D7200 book, it's the latter. Not only is this the best camera guide I have ever owned (and I started taking pictures in 1965), it is quite possibly one of the best product guide books I have ever owned. Logically arranged, clearly written, with just enough repetition (and no more) to keep you from flipping back and forth, this is a book I will be coming back to multiple times as I learn more about my D7200. One of my favorite features, beyond the simple clarity of his explanations of the many settings, is Busch's providing of recommendations for those settings, along with succinct rationales for his suggestions and advice on alternate choices. I also appreciate the careful editing: over the course of about 500 pages, I think I noted maybe 3 typos. Total. And if that doesn't impress you, you've never written an essay. ;-)

God can use you, no matter how "small" you feel!
By LeeAnn G Taylor
This book tells the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of a little mouse named Matty. Young and insecure about his significance in the world, with his mother’s encouragement he becomes an integral part of Jesus’ first night as a newborn on earth.

The illustrations are done with beautiful pastels and are big and bold, good for little ones listening along with the story but not able to read yet.

In addition to the basic story of Jesus’ birth, there are so many lessons that can be drawn from this short story about the importance of our gifts, no matter how “small”, how God uses the unlikely to accomplish the important, and having courage in the face of uncertainty.

I enjoy every opportunity that I get to read and review children’s books of all kinds, so I was excited to receive a copy of The Manger Mouse.

The story:

This book tells the story of Jesus’ birth through the eyes of mice.

The illustrations:

Aren’t my favorite. They are a little dull.

How strong is the book?

This is a relatively sturdy hardcover book.

Who the book is for:

This would be a great read-aloud book for all ages.

What I liked:

The story is cute and unique from other versions of stories already out there that are based on the Christmas story.

Has a good tone for reading aloud.

What I didn’t like:

The book may be too long to hold some children’s attention.

I didn’t care for the illustrations too much.

My conclusion:

Overall, this is a cute book.

I give The Manger Mouse 4 out of 5 stars.

I received this book free to review from Ambassador International. The opinions expressed in this review are my true thoughts and feeling regarding this book. I am disclosing this information in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

great Christmas book for kids
By Book Reader
This is a cute book to read at Christmas. It's from the perspective of a little mouse who trusts his mother about what will be arriving in their stable. The preparation they go to for Jesus' arrival made me think about the preparation in my heart and the anticipation for Jesus' next arrival.

I liked how the baby mouse did the job that God created him to do. It was a good example to my children of how God uses different people for different purposes, but they are all needed. This little mouse was to keep Jesus warm in the manger. No one else could do that job because they couldn't fit through the hole. How beautiful it is to be reminded that even the smallest tasks are important to Jesus.

My 4-year-old and 6-year-old really liked this book. The pictures held their attention and the story was engaging. I would definitely recommend this as a Christmas book!

This Is All a Dream We Dreamed: An Oral History of the Grateful Dead, by Blair Jackson, David Gans

In This Is All a Dream We Dreamed, two of the most well-respected chroniclers of the Dead, Blair Jackson and David Gans, reveal the band’s story through the words of its members, their creative collaborators and peers, and a number of diverse fans, stitching together a multitude of voices into a seamless oral tapestry. Capturing the ebullient spirit at the group’s core, Jackson and Gans weave together a musical saga that examines the music and subculture that developed into its own economy, touching fans from all walks of life, from penniless hippies to celebrities, and at least one U.S. vice president.

This definitive book traces the Dead’s evolution from its humble beginnings as a folk/bluegrass band playing small venues in Palo Alto to the feral psychedelic warriors and stadium-filling Americana jam band that blazed all the way through to the 90s. Along the way, we hear from many who were touched by the Dead—from David Crosby and Miles Davis, to Ken Kesey, Carolyn “Mountain Girl” Garcia, and a host of Merry Pranksters, to legendary concert promoter Bill Graham, and others.

Throughout their journey the Dead broke (and sometimes rewrote) just about every rule of the music business, defying conventional wisdom and charting their own often unusual course, in the process creating a business model unlike any seen before. Musically, too, they were pioneers, fusing inspired ideas and techniques with intuition and fearlessness to craft an utterly unique and instantly recognizable sound. Their music centered on collective improvisation, spiritual and social democracy, trust, generosity, and fun. They believed that you can make something real, spontaneous, and compelling happen with other musicians if you trust and encourage each other, and jam as if your life depended on it. And when it worked, there was nothing else like it.

Whether you’re part of the new generation of Deadheads who are just discovering their music or a devoted fan who has traded Dead tapes for decades, you will want to listen in on the irresistible conversations and anecdotes shared in these pages. You’ll hear stories you haven’t heard before, possibly from voices that may be unfamiliar to you, and the tales that unfold will shed a whole new light on a long and inspiring musical odyssey.

Review

"This Is All A Dream We Dreamed is an epic jam." ―Vanity Fair

"You could hardly ask for a more ideal configuration for a retelling of the Grateful Dead's story than an oral history, which is, after all, the jam band of biographical formats.... [T]he editors have pulled off the pretty neat hat trick of filling in plenty of cracks for the hard core while providing a basic education for novices. Best of all, they've provided a celebration that never feels remotely like hagiography. Even a nominal fan has to appreciate the wonder and unlikeliness of how the band sustained that first quarter-century or so of magic." ―San Francisco Chronicle

“Because both authors have been immersed in this world for decades, they’re able to assemble a storyline out of the wealth of material at their disposal without being overwhelmed by it…even the casual observer will find plenty to relish…the book is fluid, collaborative, immersive.” ―Columbus Dispatch

“Despite its title, what makes this book different from all other books on the Grateful Dead is that it is anything but dreamlike. It is down-to-earth, plainspoken, without special pleading or arguments for differing levels of awareness. You didn't have to be there. On many pages, this could be the story of any band-the story as it emerges here carries no pretensions-and elsewhere it is the story of people doing their work. And it is so full of the intensity and repetitions of ordinary life that it throws the work that was done into a new light.” ―Greil Marcus, rock critic

“This epic oral history of the 50-year-old band… is a solid, engaging chronicle.” ―Publishers Weekly

“[Jackson and Gans] know as much as nearly anyone alive about the storied band…. There’s plenty of peace and love here and lots of smoke and psychedelia, as well as the usual Altamont regrets, all voiced by people in and close to the band. Worthy of Studs Terkel and an essential addition to the books of the Dead.” ―Kirkus Reviews, starred review

“The Grateful Dead, when they were making music together, may have sometimes seemed ‘more than human,’ but they were always the first to admit that they were less than perfect. Here they are, in all their cockeyed glory. Gans and Jackson have orchestrated a shrewd, essential account of the band members’ lives and times, a tale as polyphonic as the ‘electronic Dixieland’ they unperfected through the years, to our (and their) enduring delight and awe.” ―Nick Paumgarten, staff writer, The New Yorker

“Jerry, Kesey, Bobby, Billy, Bear―this amazing book speaks to me out loud, inside my head, in all the voices of the Grateful Dead! It’s an audio illumination of family, fans, and friends, and the long, strange trip. It leaps straight out of the tree-flesh to dance in our dreams.” ―Wavy Gravy

“[A] high-demand backstory...lively oral history.” ―Booklist

"Readers will quickly become absorbed into the Dead's world and will feel that everyone is speaking directly to them.... There may currently be no better introduction to the Grateful Dead than this superior tome." ―Derek Sanderson, Library Journal, starred review

“This Is All a Dream We Dreamed reads like exactly what it is―a beautiful textual tapestry of late 20th century American music, and what happened to that music when it turned on, tuned in, and dropped into a heady space all its own. A must-read for Deadheads.” ―Buffalo News

A Must-Read for Any Deadhead Who Wants the Real Skinny
By Steve Silberman
If you ever wished you could sit around a campfire and talk for hours about the real history of the Grateful Dead with the bandmembers, the extended Dead family, and Deadheads gifted with the ability to put words to hard-to-describe feelings, this is the book for you. I've read most of the major books written on the band, and while most of them were enjoyable reads, this book really gives you the sense of being on the inside, watching historical events unfold from the perspective of the people who made those events happen. Even for the seasoned fan who has a shelf of books on the subject, "This is All a Dream We Dreamed" provides an "Aha! *That's why they did that*!" moment on almost every page. The quotes gathered here are highly illuminating on subjects ranging from the Haight-Ashbury as a funky bohemian neighborhood before the Summer of Love hype set in; the glory and excess of the tours in the early 70s; the problems created for the band as the size of its audience grew exponentially; the challenges they faced as trusted insiders like Lenny Hart ripped them off; the bandmembers' commitment to their craft and to creating musical forms that were open to mystery, spontaneity, and adventure; and the problems faced by a band that had always been very committed to its fans as things grew dark in the early '90s, following the death of Brent Mydland. (Even for a longtime fan like me, the events that culminated in the hiring of Vince Welnick were fascinating and disturbing to read). No punches are pulled here; Blair and David are clearly experts at getting their interview subjects to open up and spill the real story. I was only sad when I reached the end of this book -- I could have read hundreds of more pages. [Disclaimer: I'm quoted in several places in the book, but believe me, I'm only recommending this book because I love it.]

"THEY CREATED SOMETHIING MUSICAL AND SOMETHING MORE THAN MUSICAL."
By Stuart Jefferson
First off, I'm biased when it comes to the Grateful Dead (GD) so my rating may be a bit high for some--to each his own. And (in case you're wondering) I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of the book several days before it's general release.

"The music is central to the Grateful Dead culture, but the culture created itself around that music in a number of ways, which in turn affected the music."

"If you understand it, if you vibrated with it, it was just incredibly attractive."

"We're just playing, getting off, out to have a good time and giving it all a chance to happen." Jerry Garcia.

"Playing is in fact the best high that I know." Jerry Garcia.

This is an oral history of one of the most iconic bands to ever come out of the sixties. Is everything included here new? No. Some things (like the band's formation) you've probably read previously, but the viewpoints all blend together into a good picture of the band and the scene around them, as seen by a number of disparate viewpoints. Intelligently laid out, and written straightforwardly, the many viewpoints are from people who were there at the time--sometimes with a different view of what went down. But that's what gives this book it's appeal--as if you're listening to an anecdote from someone in front of you. And someone else may tell it slightly differently. But there's an authentic feel to these observations that's refreshing--none of this "I heard...", "Someone told me...", etc. This isn't a book filled with second-hand reporting, and that's it's real value. As time slips by, those times way back then seem to cloud over, so it's a good thing that the authors, Blair Jackson and David Gans, have collected and collated enough information before it's really too late. There's probably not two other writers who are such authorities on the GD, and can weave a story like this together using the oral biography approach.

"A long time ago, we were sort of incidental music at the celebration of life. Which was super cool. Now, however, we're in the position of being rock 'n' roll stars, which is not anywhere near as cool." Jerry Garcia.

Included (because the thrust of the book is an oral biography) is a list of people in the book, a list of sources used, a bibliography, and an index of "speakers" and names. There's also eight "Codas", written by different people about various parts of the GD scene which are interesting each in their own way. There's a b&w photo at each chapter heading, that's it.

"With our scene here, we've managed to employ just about everyone we know in some capacity, because everybody has something they can do." Jerry Garcia.

"The streets got really, really dirty. It was just insane." Rosie McGee, Grateful Dead family member/insider on the Summer of Love.

"So, Jerry, you have a record in the Top Ten." "It's not my fault." Jerry Garcia answering Allan Arkush.

The book traces not just the band, but gets us closer to the sub-cultrure that grew up around the band that was fully part of the scene back then. But besides the music (and how good the acid was) the band was (rightly) concerned with how their music was marketed by a bunch of "straights in suits". You'll hear from people like Bill Graham, Mountain Girl, John Cutler, Owsley Stanley, John Cippolina, John "Marmaduke" Dawson (late member of one of my favorite bands, NRPS), Wavy Garvy (Merry Prankster), David Crosby, Rosie McGee, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Peter Tork (yes, of The Monkees), members of the band, and a number of others, both well and lesser known, from people in the GD orbit.

"Right here, I want the sound of thick air." Bob Weir to producer Dave Hassinger, who walked out of the studio.

"Back in the old days when we were taking acid and stuff, I learned some of my most important musical lessons." Jerry Garcia.

With the use of both newer and archival interviews, both published and unpublished, the book traces the story of the GD from their country /bluegrass/blues/rock beginnings, to psychedelic rangers, to a band that found mass appeal relatively late in their careers. The insightful comments and observations really do bring that whole era into a better focus--even if you were lucky enough to be there back then. In this period of the band's big 50th Anniversary, there's a number of books being published about the band. This book is one of the better books that deserves to be on your GD bookshelf.

"This'll never be the same again. It'll always be something else. It's just a whole different thing." Jerry Garcia on Pigpen's death.

"To me, psychedelics are a gift of nature that bring tribalism to people." Owsley Stanley.

"With this rock band I can rule the world!" Jerry Garcia on Owsley Stanley when he first heard the band at the Acid Test.

"I don't think anybody--still--knows what went on or what happened, or what the true repercussions of the sixties will be." Paul Kantner.

"My last memories of Jerry are sitting with him backstage going through the sculpture books of Andy Goldsworthy page by page." Wavy Gravy.

And two other pretty cool books are "Grateful Memories; Ten Years on the Road Taping the Dead", by Jim Daley, which is his personal account of taping the band from '79-'89. It's a nice look at the scene back then no matter if you were there, or you just want to get an idea of what it was like. The other book is "California Dreams The Art of Stanley Mouse", a collection of Mouse's artwork both in and out of the concert scene. This large size book has very nice reproductions of many of his art pieces including his car-art and his poster work in S.F. Plus, with Blair Jackson's help, Mouse tells the story of his life and times. Check out his piece titled "Need A New Brain", 1993, on page 158. Hmmm.

I'm ready for Volume Two
By gbaba
All in all I found it to be a fantastic book. Very insightful and personable. I give it 4 stars because I'd already read a lot of the interviews in other publications, though "THIS IS ALL A DREAM...." put them together in a very nice and coherent manner. Truth be known, I'm mostly writing this review in an attempt to encourage Blair and David to do the same concerning the Acid Tests before everyone involved is dead. Could be a lot of fun gathering up interviews with those in on the 'Unspoken Thing', so I wish you the best of luck with that one. Personally, I feel the Acid Tests must have been the most amazing affair ( I was in junior high at the time). Young adults 'awakening' under the influence of LSD to God and beyond, partying their asses off. Damn! If I only had a time machine.

I have enjoyed reading Sinita Wells book from the moment I picked it up "I Am Woman First" Ms. Wells is straight forward in your face approach on if you don't love yourself who will, if you can't take care of yourself how you will be able to help others. As a woman I tended not to put myself first and this book in away tells you it's okay to do as such.
This book is hit as far as I am concerned. It was a page turner that I could not put down.
Sinita, thanks for writing this story. I love your style and wish you continued success. I am looking forward to reading your next book.

Cheers to Nurture, Inspiring & Living ME!
By Aprille Franks-Hunt
I thought I Am A Woman First was a great reminder that we are more alike than different through the stories shared from women all over the world. That in itself is comforting to know that this life is a constant journey of self discovery and that as women we need to take the time to love ourselves - as I've been guilt of self neglect in the name of "everything" else. This book is an easy read and great for me and my friends to chatter about with a girls night in!

The Tumbleweed Society: Working and Caring in an Age of Insecurity, by Allison J. Pugh

Today we live in a society in which relationships, social ties, and jobs seem to change constantly. People roll this way and that, like tumbleweeds blown across an arid plain. Yet we know little about the broader impact of job insecurity and uncertainty in our lives.

In The Tumbleweed Society, Allison Pugh offers a moving exploration of sacrifice, betrayal, defiance, and resignation, as people adapt to insecurity with their own negotiations of commitment on the job and in intimate life. When people no longer expect commitment from their employers, how do they think about their own obligations? How do we raise children, put down roots in our communities, and live up to our promises at a time when flexibility and job insecurity reign?

Based on eighty in-depth interviews with parents who vary in their experiences of job insecurity and socio-economic status, Pugh finds that most people accept job insecurity as inevitable, even as many maintain high standards for their own dedication: a "one-way honor system" in which workers are beholden but employers are not. But while many seem to either embrace or resign themselves to insecurity at work, they try to hold off that insecurity from infiltrating their home lives. Erecting a "moral wall" to corral the maelstrom at work, however, comes with a price. Placing nearly all of their hopes for enduring connections on their intimate relationships, she argues, can place intolerable stress on their intimate lives, often sparking the very instability they long to avoid.

By shining a light on how we ourselves adapt-and prepare our children-for the new environment of uncertainty, Allison Pugh gives us a finely detailed portrait of what commitment and obligation mean today.

Review

"The Tumbleweed Society offers a subtle, brilliant look at how people craft a sense of ethical purpose in an era of laissez-faire institutions, where the community has little to offer and financial security can vanish overnight. It's also a riveting read, rich with fascinating human stories." --Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Bright-Sided and Nickel and Dimed

"The Tumbleweed Society provides a fascinating and original account of the ways that work insecurity seeps into the family lives of the millions of Americans who can no longer count on stable employment." --Andrew Cherlin, Professor of Sociology and Public Policy, Johns Hopkins University

"Does the end of the lifelong, one-company career in America just affect work? Or does it, as Allison Pugh asks in this brilliantly illuminating book, influence how we address the possibility of grievous disappointment in intimate life too? Do we hedge our bets in love and work, or trustingly sacrifice in one or both realms, and risk feeling betrayed when a contract turns out to be 'unrequited'? The reader will find eye-opening answers on this central issue of our age." --Arlie Hochschild, author of The Outsourced Self and So How's the Family?

"The rise in precarious work during the past three decades has produced dramatic changes in both work and family life. But people have adapted to insecurity differently, depending on whether they are stably employed, have been laid off, or had to relocate. The Tumbleweed Society vividly describes the diversity of experiences that characterize the new era of precarity through the voices of those who have experienced a variety of work arrangements and family formations." --Arne L. Kalleberg, Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

"Sociologist Pugh tries to connect the "two whirlwinds" of job insecurity and marital insecurity. She interviewed 88 parents of teenagers, mostly women, representing highly educated job changers, moderately educated job losers, and the moderately educated stably employed. Those at the top have the privilege of choice, riding the fluid economy for better opportunities. At the same time, they build a "moral wall" of stability around their marriages." --Choice

Untangling the "knots of duty"
By E.M. Bristol
"The Tumbleweed Society: Working and Caring in an Age of Insecurity," explores how both people with no job security and those with relative security cope in both their personal and professional lives. Author Allison J. Pugh interviewed eighty parents: 33 of whom experienced layoffs; 32 who are currently in stable professions; and 20 who had to move as a result of theirs' or their spouse's job being relocated. (There was category overlap with some of the subjects.) The subjects are described as "mostly white women with some college," but there are men and people of color interviewed, as well. The subjects came from the Washington, D.C. area, as well as Virginia and two large coastal cities. Their thoughts on the subject are interwoven with insights from the author on the current state of American society.

The author found that there is a marked difference (unsurprisingly) between how people with job security and people without it view their jobs, and by extension, their personal lives. Those who fall in the latter category, for example, tend to have what she calls a "one way honor system," meaning that they hold themselves professionally lo certain standards while expecting nothing in the way of job stability from their employers. In contrast, people with relative job security often maintain a pragmatic approach to their marriages and families, being willing to "settle" for a less than ideal situation. Interestingly, people who experience little job security, can wind up pushing themselves to what many would consider heroic standards to care for their family members. At the same time, however, even people with very little job security can and do make decisions in their personal lives that put them in the position of doing the choosing. (One woman interviewed who had had money troubles with her first husband, decided after her second marriage, to keep separate financial accounts.)

The author also examines the way people describe their professional and personal lives, including the use of humor. My own conclusion was that humor is simply more socially acceptable in the US when it comes to discussing such sensitive subjects with a stranger than "whining" about one's problems, but the author puts this all a lot more sophisticatedly than I could.

As the author points out, other countries have done a better job of addressing the current, instable global economy and its impact on their citizens. However, the United States (in the author's opinion) is lagging far behind. In the afterword, Pugh states that it would be helpful to the people currently adrift in this "tumbleweed society" to have a conversation about what employers and employees owe each other. This book goes a long way to getting such a conversation started.

Five stars for insight; four for execution. There seemed to be some repetition, and at times, I found it easy to lose the thread of what was being discussed. However, "The Tumbleweed Society," is overall a thought-provoking read about a timely topic.

A vital examination of how job insecurity affects intimacy, worker loyalty, and our communities
By Kcorn
Many employees are all too familiar with the stresses of job insecurity, desperately scrambling to find work after being laid off or their company downsizes. Others are in stable jobs - and then there are those who aren't sure whether their "stable" jobs are really all that secure. Some move from one city to another, depending on the demands of their employers.

Sociologist Allison Pugh looks at all of these groups. She doesn't just cite the statistics on the unemployed and the under-employed but instead focuses on how work anxieties affect family life, intimacy, loyalty to jobs, and more. This is an impressive study which deserves a wide readership. She provides plenty of evidence that unemployment and unstable jobs affect not only individuals but our communities and sense of connection to one another.

In the course of writing this book, Pugh interviewed individuals from four groups: those who experienced layoffs, those who moved to get a new job (and were generally anxious about holding those jobs), those employed in stable jobs, and those whose employers asked them to relocate. She didn't speak with a large number of people - only 80 individuals - but she supplemented the results with an extensive number of studies and other material. This is listed in a detailed bibliography at the back of the book and there are also notes on each chapter.

While I've tried to highlight the larger themes in The Tumbleweed Society, there are far more related issues than I can cover here - at least without writing an extremely long review. I was particularly drawn to the chapter which centered on how job insecurity affects parenting. Highly recommended.

The New Reality of Workers Without Rights and Employers Who Have No Obligation
By Lynn Ellingwood
An amazing sociological work which I suspect might go mainstream or be a lasting work of modern Sociology. Allison J. Pugh studied how the nature of work has changed drastically in the last 30 years. Americans can no longer expect long term employment with one company or the public sector and are forced to look for work every few years, bringing down wages, retirement saving and the social contract that was often connected to employment in this country. Instead people may work as temps in large corporations with no benefits, have irregular work hours and be pressed to be available for work at all times. Children see little of their parents, marriages are stressed and the quality of care they receive can be haphazardly put together. Parents could use people they normally wouldn't as child care or begin or stay in relationships because they need child care. The book is effective in showing how many people whose lives are on the edge of poverty or have already fallen in. Great work.

Loved the photos and the author succeeds in writing an understandable guide on keeping Bonsai trees. Clearing the Air: Art of the Bowel Movement, by T. Lee Baumann

In Clearing the Air: Art of the Bowel Movement, physician Lee Baumann provides a detailed description of the anatomy, physiology, and proper care of one of our body's most valuable resources: the terminal bowel. Few people, including many physicians, understand the sequential, complex, and consequential nature of the underappreciated organs involved: the sigmoid colon, rectum, and anus. Despite the rectum's superior sagacity and judgment, the anal sphincter commands undue control over the final decision-making algorithm. As such, the overbearing anus may exercise its unrestrained power to the veritable detriment of its host. The unpleasant consequences of an anal-retentive sphincter include simple constipation (the majority of its victims), diverticular disease (50% of people over the age of 60), and even material obstruction in the more severe cases. All of these unpleasant effects are avoidable for the normal bowel. In Art of the Bowel Movement, Dr. Baumann offers simple medical recommendations and practices for preventing and avoiding the penalties of yielding to the impulsive and demanding anus. Knowledge of the physiology of our intestines, the use of supplemental dietary fiber, and respecting the vital supplications of the obeisant rectum will go far in addressing and ameliorating these bodily concerns.

A book for everyone
By Robin Landry
If you're human, you need this book. We all have bowels, truly the most neglected part of our body, and now there's book(large print because it seems as if the older you get, the more this part of your body protests) that can explain what it is, how it works, and why we need to pay attention.

Clearing the Air: Art of the Bowel Movement, is both a humerous(because it seems as if we're all six years old when it comes to discussing our bowels), and educational. Neglecting the needs of the bowels can lead to a whole host of problems in the human body. As T. Lee Baumann explains(he's a medical doctor), we need a lot more fiber than we can get in our diets. With a nickname of Mr. Fiber, Baumann explains what the difference between soluble fiber and insoluble fiber, what they both do, and why we need them.

Baumann explains how eating both kinds of fiber have been found to reduce everything from breast cancer & ovarian cancer to diverticulosis, which seems to be happening to more and more people my age(later baby-boomer).

Learn about anal hygiene and why it's so important. Learn how your digestive system works, which might inspire you to chew your food more thoroughly.

Easy to read and understand, this short book might just save you from any of the many diseases that can affect you because you don't understand and appreciate the Art of the Bowel Movement.
