About the Author
Deirdre Clancy has played a key role in the development of modern theatre costume design, winning two awards for her work, the Olivier Award for Best Stage Costume Design and the BAFTA for Best Film Costume Design (Mrs Brown). She has worked on over 140 productions in Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. She has designed for 18 productions at the Royal National Theatre.

This excellent book is equally fascinating and useful for established costume designers and those new to the field, as well as anyone interested in the way costumes both contribute to the larger production and stand on their own as an art form. An award-winning and accomplished costume designer, Clancy uses her own insightful voice to clearly explain the history of the field (a topic often missing from costume texts) and the design process, and she illustrates the text with sketches and photographs of her own beautiful and evocative designs. For those with an excitement for costumes, or for theater and film in general, this book is a necessary addition to any library, private or public. As a designer myself, I expect to reference it often.

This was my textbook for a costume design class and it's great! I usually sell back my textbooks but I'm keeping this one. There's large color pictures too, which are fantastic and help a lot with the material.
