Dr. Rhea Landon knew she'd been thrown into Phobos Prison to die. The most notorious prison in the solar system and one from which there was no escape, Phobos Prison housed the most dangerous predators in the solar system—and the few who survived more than a year were the worst of the worst. Dragged into the arena where the warden held 'gladiator' games for the entertainment of the staff and inmates, she was stripped naked and chained to a post.

Author Kaitlyn O’Connor was first published by Harlequin Enterprises in 1994 under the pen name of Madris Dupree after nearly a decade of ‘apprenticeship’ --struggling to learn the business, the marketing, and the writing skills necessary for a career in commercial fiction. That ‘first’ published book, a historical, (which was actually her fourth attempt at a marketable piece of fiction) was successful, however, selling nearly 80,000 copies in the U.S., Switzerland, France, and the U.K. She writes various genres (or sub-genres since she always writes romance!) under different pen names. She has written science fiction/futuristic/fantasy under several—Kaitlyn O’Connor, in honor of her Scottish grandmother, Lyssa Hart, and Angelique Anjou (for the French ancestry), all combined here now under the single pen name Kaitlyn O’Connor.

I NEVER THOUGHT BEING CALLED ANOTHER WOMANS NAME WAS ROMANTIC
By Amazon Customer
First I would like to say that this author is one of the best sci fi romance authors out there. No I don't consider myself a fan. Fans are fanatic. I'll do my best by her by giving an honest review of her book. I do appreciate a good book when I read it and Ms O'Connor has certainly written more than her share of top quality works.
I believe the top two reviewers did an adequate job reviewing the overall theme of the book hitting on the high lights but the one area that I thought was sorely lacking was the romance. One of the things I always admired about K O'Connor's heroines is their determination to survive, self pride & determination to over come. There are spoilers but they are already in the top 2 reviews so nothing new...Dr Rhea is lacking in my opinion on all fronts. The only thing she is really willing to do is be used sexually which really was not romantic or a survival tactic when you don't have an end goal beyond an orgasm. When John started calling her another woman's name in the throes of passion, offered her sexually to Kyle in exchange for information then referred to her for the rest of the book as "Munch" which was a derogatory term for the female sex organ. For me just reading that just left me cold. When Rhea told John how she felt about him he played her emotions while he finished the "sex act" then emotionally slam dunked her. Pride & self preservation alone would have told her to crawl off at some point. Kyle wanted her and John used her as a fluid receptacle, gave her away, called her another woman's name REPEATEDLY ....add it up. Also, John NEVER had any intention of taking Rhea with them when he escaped. Ms O'connor wrote a short couple half hatred convoluted sentences that made no sense then toped it off with.. Rhea's heart warmed that John was trying to think of her safety! Please! John cared about John only. Rhea was a "burden/Munch" he didn't have any use for once he left. Sorry I didn't write John. That is how I read him.
I think the worst part of the whole book was the end. I would have liked it to come a lot sooner but DR. Rhea actually found out she was pregnant & tracked down both men to tell them off. Why not just take her child and leave? Maybe she left HER balls in the billiards room? (Inside readers joke)
SORRY NO I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE
But Check out :
Lion's Woman, Cyborg Nation, Rules of Engagement, Genesis, Lord of The Sea, The Forgotten, Exciled, Jarel's Lioness, When Night Falls
All of these books are good reads with determined women and men that one would hope to be caught by.

Dark Solstice
By mnix
Phobos Prison is the worst hellhole prison in the entire system. Only the worst of the worst are sent there for multiple murders, serial murderers, serial rapists and Dr. Rhea Landon. A geologist by profession, Rhea has had the misfortune of discovering something on the surface of Mars that nobody wants uncovered.
Two inmates, John Raathe and Kyle Justice cross paths with Rhea. First, John wins her in a battle to the death and when Kyle spots her with Raathe he somehow knows that Rhea is meant for him as well.
Raathe, Justice and two others have a plan to break out of Phobos but having Rhea there complicates things. Can the men leave her behind knowing it will mean certain death for her? Also, if they do succeed and escape where will they go to hide? Success and faith aren't something these guys have going for them.
Dark Solstice is a stark drama with deep emotional undercurrents. The main characters are stripped emotionally bare at different points alongside the brutality of a harsh environment. I was drawn in by the characters and fascinated with the overall story but there are a few potholes that interrupt the flow. Questions as to how Rhea was caught and detained are vague, plus the declarations of love seemed improbable considering the ongoing circumstances although everything is resolved by the end. Dark Solstice fits the bill if you are looking for something fearless to read with a heroine who never gives up.
