About the Author

Mary Anne White is a University Research Professor at Dalhousie University, where she is also the director of the Dalhousie Research in Energy, Advanced Materials and Sustainability (DREAMS) program. Her research in energetics and thermal properties of materials has led to the development of new materials that can convert waste heat to energy and materials that can trap solar energy. Dr. White is a regular contributor to CBC Radio’s Maritime Noon and has been the recipient of the McNeil Medal of the Royal Society of Canada and the Union Carbide Award for Chemical Education from the Chemical Institute of Canada.

The USS Oriskany , known affectionately as The Mighty O, is an aircraft carrier 911 feet long. During fleet operations, the ship consumed 200 thousand gallons of fuel oil per day. During the Vietnam War, The Mighty O carried a complement of 80 aircraft (jets, prop-driven and helicopters). After 25 years of service, The Mighty O continues her service to the nation as an artificial reef in 200 feet of water, 20 miles off the coast of Pensacola, Florida.

In addition to The Mighty O he is the author of four other non-fiction books: WALL SOUTH, a pictorial history of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Pensacola, Florida; THE BLUE GHOST: The Ship That Couldn’t Be Sunk; EYES of the FLEET: A History of Naval Photography; Century of War, War Stories; The Crazy Ones Shot Film and three novels, PHOTOJOURNALIST: The Story of a Navy Combat Photographer; Anything but the Truth; Brinkmanship: Standoff in the Caribbean. The author is a member of the USS Oriskany Association, International Combat Camera Association and the National Association of Naval Photography.

Start Basic and Expand as Needed!

I agree with other reviewers that one of the most important features of this book is that in the 12 example plans presented, you can economically plan and build the Basic smaller version of 850 to 1000 sq. ft. and when the need arises, add on to the design. If any design meets your needs, you can purchase a working blueprint for $25 including postage and also included at no extra cost for the more technically minded, are a CD-ROM of a CAD version of the chosen working drawing that you can alter making this one of the most complete and convenient packages I have had the pleasure to use.

The one reviewer who said, "If you are looking for old traditional Adobe home plans this is not what you are looking for." was correct. But, if you are looking for a modern adobe home with passive solar traits that is well thought out and will lead you step-by-step, this is the book/package for you. Covers both traditional "flat roofs" and "gabled roofs".

A Great Start!

This is a terrific book to get started thinking about the adobe home you want to build, especially if you're planning on building "green." The floor plans and accompanying CAD generated images are practical and straightforward. The text covers the basics of adobe home building, including the advantages and disadvantages the owner may want to consider first. If you're considering building a modest adobe home, this book is an excellent place to begin. Working blueprints of the floor plans are available for a minimal cost as well should the owner decide to adopt one as is.

This was one of the few books that I have been able to find that has working house plans for adobe building. Although there are only twelve basic plans, they all have multiple configurations that actually make a wide variety of ideas.

Extremely well written and a great asset to any D7200 owner

I have been a hobbyist photographer for several years and although I mainly shoot in Aperture Priority and Manual Mode, I know there is still a lot I do not know about my camera and I'm always looking for opportunities to learn more about photography. This was my first DSLR Guide so I wasn't sure what to expect. First of all there are almost 500 pages of content! David has done a REALLY great job of providing a resource for both new and seasoned photographers alike. The book starts out with the very basics of the D7200 but quickly begins to cover in detail every single button, feature and menu item on the camera (which in itself is an incredible feat). David provides his suggested settings and throughout the book and even tells you why he recommends them. There are photos and examples on almost every page of the book that illustrate the feature or show where on the camera that particular feature is found. So far I'm 1/2 way finished with the book. I've already learned a lot from this book and am excited to finish the rest of the book and learn about the features and settings that I am not as familiar with. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any photographer!

The best book I could have purchased, prior to buying the Nikon D7200. Saved me MONEY!!!!!!!

I found this book to be the best purchase ever!!!! I determined what camera I was going to purchase first, then bought the book. I am a beginner when it comes to photography. I purchased a SLR digital camera several years ago and hated it. The quality of the pictures were terrible even using the automatic settings. I am hosting a German exchange student and decided I needed a new camera. I received the book and read most of the book and played very close attention to the section on recommended accessories that should be considered for purchase. The most important section to me was on lenses. I was able to determine the best starting lens for me was the AF-S DX ZOOM-NIKKOR F/3.5-5.6 G VR II. The book save me a lot of frustration, disappointment, and money by helping me make my decision on a lens before buying the camera. I was able to find a camera package that included this lens on Amazon from Cameta Camera.

The book is easy to read and understand for a beginner like me. I have also purchased the following books; David Busch's Compact Field Guide for the Nikon D7200 and David Busch's Mastering Digital SLR Photography, Fourth Edition.

Not only the best camera guide I've ever read, possible the best product guide I've ever read.

I don't actually enjoy writing reviews, which is why, out of the all-too-many items I buy on Amazon, I only come back to provide reviews when something is really bad, or really good. In the case of David Busch's D7200 book, it's the latter. Not only is this the best camera guide I have ever owned (and I started taking pictures in 1965), it is quite possibly one of the best product guide books I have ever owned. Logically arranged, clearly written, with just enough repetition (and no more) to keep you from flipping back and forth, this is a book I will be coming back to multiple times as I learn more about my D7200. One of my favorite features, beyond the simple clarity of his explanations of the many settings, is Busch's providing of recommendations for those settings, along with succinct rationales for his suggestions and advice on alternate choices. I also appreciate the careful editing: over the course of about 500 pages, I think I noted maybe 3 typos. Total. And if that doesn't impress you, you've never written an essay. ;-)

She is a published novelist (Guardian Spirit; The Color of My Heart), newspaper columnist, blogger, and former advertising manager for a regional newspaper. Sarah loves sharing her life story with children of all ages. She speaks at schools, book clubs, libraries, and book festivals. Sarah lives at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina with her husband of 37 years. Her only daughter and grandchild live close by. When not creating new stories, she loves reading, camping, canoeing, fishing, exploring the world, taking daily walks, and spending time with her family.

God can use you, no matter how "small" you feel!

This book tells the story of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of a little mouse named Matty. Young and insecure about his significance in the world, with his mother’s encouragement he becomes an integral part of Jesus’ first night as a newborn on earth.

The illustrations are done with beautiful pastels and are big and bold, good for little ones listening along with the story but not able to read yet.

In addition to the basic story of Jesus’ birth, there are so many lessons that can be drawn from this short story about the importance of our gifts, no matter how “small”, how God uses the unlikely to accomplish the important, and having courage in the face of uncertainty.

I enjoy every opportunity that I get to read and review children’s books of all kinds, so I was excited to receive a copy of The Manger Mouse.

The story:

This book tells the story of Jesus’ birth through the eyes of mice.

The illustrations:

Aren’t my favorite. They are a little dull.

How strong is the book?

This is a relatively sturdy hardcover book.

Who the book is for:

This would be a great read-aloud book for all ages.

What I liked:

The story is cute and unique from other versions of stories already out there that are based on the Christmas story.

Has a good tone for reading aloud.

What I didn’t like:

The book may be too long to hold some children’s attention.

I didn’t care for the illustrations too much.

My conclusion:

Overall, this is a cute book.

I give The Manger Mouse 4 out of 5 stars.

great Christmas book for kids

This is a cute book to read at Christmas. It's from the perspective of a little mouse who trusts his mother about what will be arriving in their stable. The preparation they go to for Jesus' arrival made me think about the preparation in my heart and the anticipation for Jesus' next arrival.

I liked how the baby mouse did the job that God created him to do. It was a good example to my children of how God uses different people for different purposes, but they are all needed. This little mouse was to keep Jesus warm in the manger. No one else could do that job because they couldn't fit through the hole. How beautiful it is to be reminded that even the smallest tasks are important to Jesus.

My 4-year-old and 6-year-old really liked this book. The pictures held their attention and the story was engaging. I would definitely recommend this as a Christmas book!
