The Death of Dr. Alekhine is a crime novel about the investigation into the death of a chess champion in post-World War II Paris.
When the body of Dr. Alekhine is found in a hotel room, all signs point to suicide or accidental death. But Detective Inspector Jacques Colbert believes there's more than meets the eye.

Not what I expected, but a good read
By Marshall R.
I did absolutely no research on this book before I bought it. I've bought a number of books on Alekhine, read the title and bought this. I expected a somewhat factual analysis of the suspicious death and possible cover-up of his death in 1946. However, this is a fictionalized account written as a mystery. A good part of the book covers the time period (World War 2 and post-WW2)and political environment of Paris and the War itself, providing an interesting perspective to the last years of Alekhine's life.
I am not a big fiction reader anymore, but if you like chess (I do), like mysteries (I do), and like history (I do), then you will probably enjoy this book. It is a thin book, 153 pages, and can be read quickly. The writing at times is a little 'drippy' or overdone, but not much. I am really glad I bought and read this book.

Good reading with an unexpected end
By Marita Lindberg Eriksson
I liked this book.
I don't know much about chess or World War 2 but the story was well written and very thrilling.
It also had a surprising and unexpected end which I think a real good mystery book should include.
If you are fond of mystery books, I suggest you read this one.

By Amazon Customer
It was different and kept me in suspense. I like the choose of words which were new description of common things but gave it an intriguing new light. It was a twist on a real event and gave a new light on history. It used real events to make a great fiction mystery. Thanks for a new mystery.
