Warhammer 40k Essential

After reading the 13th Black Crusade, I have to say that this is one of those works that any true Warhammer 40k fan MUST have. Detailing the events of the infamous Games Workshop international gaming campaign during the summer of 2003, this book provides a battle-by-battle account of Abaddon the Despoiler's invasion of the Cadian Gate during 999.M41. The book is presented as a compilation of journal entries written by one of Lord Castellan Creed's generals and includes various other articles such as pictures, personal letters and accounts, and many astropathic, Inquisition, and Mechanicus reports, all contributing to give the reader the feeling that he/she is in the midst of a horrible war. I must add that many of the pictures are in a style I've never seen before in a Warhammer 40k publication; the pictures look incredibly realistic, including snapshots of military vehicles and space fleets, satellite imagery, and other images very similar to a 20th century press release. The 13th Black Crusade truly captures the feelings of horror, triumph, and despair that were felt by all Imperial forces throughout that Campaign of Terror.

Engrossing Narrative

How often does one encounter a company so invested in its completely fictional setting that they spend significant amounts of money publishing historical tomes, background books really, detailing various conflicts and within their fictional universe? How much rarer is it that said company would spare no production cost to create coffee-table sized versions of these tomes with high quality gloss pages and high resolution photographs. How much rarer is it for a company to have a fan-base that is so fascinated by the diverse science-fiction futuristic universe they have created that these books sell with relative like hotcakes? Safe for perhaps the teeming multitudes of works published regarding the inhabitants of Tolkien's Middle Earth, I would venture the guess that Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k setting is the only one able to claim all of this fame.

From the perspective Adjutant General Alexis Grail, staff officer of Cadian High Command, the Thirteenth Black Crusade chronicles the darkest and most dire days of the Imperium of Mankind. The worlds and sub-sectors surrounding the Cadian Gate are invaded by the most feared foe of man, the dreaded forces of Chaos. This invasion of terrifyingly mutated battle fleets, dark servants of ancient malevolent gods, hordes of mutants, and throngs of corrupted faith spewing heretics is preceded by an explosion of cult activity across dozens of worlds. This conflict, which will erupt like a volcano into a war involving hundreds of millions of soldiers from across the Imperium will eventually rip across nearly three dozen worlds, is the setting for the Black Crusade.

While some of the photographs mentioned in the another review are obviously taken from terrestrial sources this book is filled with nuance and detail of the conflict and reads exactly like the memoirs of a high ranking general. I would have preferred more detail on the forces and personalities involved in the conflict and their histories but this could be the subject of an entire historical tome of its town. It is interestingly paced and can, with only a little imaginative effort on the part of the reader, allow you to for a moment to envision yourself in this nearly unimaginably horribly and brutal conflict.

book was allright

i was expecting a lay out of the whole campaign. with pictures and art work. the whole book was from only 1 prosective. and the pics sucked the vast majority of them were real satilite pics of earth and the moon. it was really garbage anyway if your gonna buy this book buy it when its cheaper................i thought it would detail the regiments envolved aswell as the astartes units. it could of used more info on who fouhght and who died. aswell as where and why.

Real, practical and actionable information for the "action-taker" type of person looking to build something real

As co-founder of Digital Experts Academy (DEA), I've personally know Greg and Fiona for several years now and I have to say: Not only are they wonderful, down-to-earth, and caring humans, they're incredibly inspiring to be around. Their passion is travel and it's incredible to see how in just a few short years they've been able to build a business around their lifestyle vs a lifestyle around their business.

After receiving an autographed copy of the book as a gift back in 2012, I finally took the time to sit down and read it. A student, who had just enrolled in Digital Experts Academy told me how he had taken an affiliate marketing course at the University of San Francisco and was given a copy of the book from his professor. (After reading the book, he looked up Greg and Fiona online and realized that they were also part-time digital business coaches with Digital Experts.)

What I found incredibly rare and inspiring is how raw and real Greg and Fiona are. It's also FULL of practical, actionable, and useful information on the whole spectrum of what it truly takes to build an online business and create a laptop lifestyle. From some of the most basic/tactical marketing stuff to the more advanced entrepreneurial mindset stuff that people struggle with every day (even if they don't realize it). Knowing "what it takes" to transition to complete self-reliance and financial independence is one thing... hearing it from someone who's been there and done it, made the mistakes, overcome the hurdles, and is willing to honestly share this with the read is another.

I can honestly say that there is enough content in the first 2-3 chapters alone to make this a must-read. Another thing that I really appreciated about it is that Greg and Fiona are openly sharing their story and personal experience without coming across as out-of-reach experts or gurus. In my opinion, there are far to many teachers out there pumping out "how-to" books and not nearly enough books like this that tell you what you need to know vs what you want to read.

Again, very impressed and highly recommended. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that if you can afford to hire them to personally coach you, go for it. Mentoring with real-world people like this (who are walking the walk) is priceless.

It has good tips on finding a niche, using free software and marketing via sites such as YouTube. Their advice provides a guideline, but I would have preferred more in-depth information. I am disappointed to see there are no real life examples of others who have succeeded at their niches. The only example that is shown is Greg and Fiona's information/marketing website.

What is off putting about this book is that it's heavy on 'self-help' There's a whole chapter on it and it goes into great depth. This is good if you need some motivation to start, but is it necessary to have a huge chapter devoted to it? I must admit I rolled my eyes when they mentioned 'The Secret'.

The other thing that I disliked is that all their chapters contain links going back to their website as well as pictures of the couple living their life style. This reminds me of the way Amway likes to sell their business. I can't help but think that this is a marketing ploy to sell their marketing classes/products further.

Now that I have read the book, I have taken the time to read the Amazon reviews. It does seem very weird that all the reviewers have given glowing reviews, but have never reviewed other books. This is very disappointing and I hope Amazon changes it's policy on reviewers.

Summing up it's big on motivation and includes some good advice for a complete novice to get started. I'd leave this one alone though if you've already read other books on on-line start-ups.

Refreshingly different!

I am reading this book for the third time! It's not one of your typical "make money" types of books full of hyped up claims and bogus stories of riches flying out of your computer if you follow a few simple strategies.

Rather, the beauty of this book is that it is down to earth, honest, and presents internet marketing as a real business full of pitfalls, challenges, and the like but one that is lucrative if you heed their example.

Greg and Fiona are two entrepreneurs who present themselves very much as "normal" people who decided to give internet marketing a try and spent their first year or two spinning their wheels, buying bogus products and trying this that simply didn't work despite the claims of the "gurus" selling them. They eventually figured out that this is a business just like any other and needs to be approached as such. Most books don't tell you this which is why I like their story.

What I must like about this book is that they are REAL people who admit they made huge mistakes from the start, got sucked in to "get rich quick schemes" (and at least warn you of the temptations along the way), had to navigate through the minefields of challenges no one thinks about at the start (e.g. do YOU really have the discipline to be your own boss and get work done when no one is watching? I mean really, who thinks about that when they get started with their own business?)

This one is not for experienced marketers, however, they probably wouldn't get much from it. However, it is extremely telling for anyone interested in either Internet Marketing or for those who have tried it and got no where - they prove it can be done but will take time and effort.

My advice, if you're new to this or are thinking about internet marketing as a way to build either passive income or start a full time business, get it, read it, then read it again.

Clear instructions but mundane jewelry

I ordered this book because I wanted clear step by step photos of the bead crochet process. That it does. But you can obtain the information online or from less expensive beading magazines. I thought I'd be getting an in depth view of this wonderful craft--like info on how to string beads to create patterns.

When I tried to return the book I found that the seller (though the book is from the US) is in Great Britain! They are called "The Book Depository." This is the response I got when I emailed them:
"We are an online seller so for us items are not being held on site and the information we have been given doesn't give much more details regarding the contents of this items we sell. I am very sorry we could not be of more help."

They did eventually refund my money.

Wonderful, heartwarming. Laura Bradford as always at her best!

The Amish Mystery series by author Laura Bradford has been one of my very favorite series since I started reading cozies. This wonderful short story is a perfect addition.

A CHRISTMAS MOURNING, is a beautiful, heartwarming story. A light mystery dealing with the character Jacob. But we also get to see all our favorite characters from this fantastic series.

Laura Bradford’s writing draws you into her stories and makes you feel a part of them. Every description transports you to the place she speaks of. You are in Heavenly, Pennsylvania. You hear the sounds, smell the smells, see the sights. You live the story as you read it. Only an author of Ms. Bradford’s caliber can truly bring a story to life.

A CHRISTMAS MOURNING is a must read for every reader of this series. If you haven’t read the Amish Mystery series, please, start them as soon as you can. They are truly magnificent.

I’ve been looking forward to reading book 5 in this series, A CHURN FOR THE WORSE for some time now. After reading A CHRISTMAS MOURNING, I’m even more excited!

Enjoyable, emotional short story

I am not a big fan of short stories; but when one comes along within the year long wait for a favorite series, I snatch it up. I am so glad I did with CHRISTMAS MOURNING, an entry in Laura Bradford's Amish Mystery series. It was a real treat!

While the current story takes place in June, the mystery plot centers around an event that happened to Jakob at Christmastime when he was a young Amish boy. After sharing the memory of losing a cherished heirloom of his mother's, Claire goes in search of finding the item in the hopes of relieving Jakob of the sadness and guilt he still feels.

CHRISTMAS MOURNING is a story, that despite being short, takes the reader through a series of emotions.

I am anxiously waiting for book no. 5 in this series, A Churn for the Worse, which is scheduled for release on March 1, 2016. I cannot recommend enough this entire series to fans of both Amish fiction and cozy mysteries.

Wonderful Addition to a Fabulous Series.

I absolutely love this series so when I saw the short Christmas Story novella, I scooped it right up. It is filled with everything that I love about the series. The characters in this story are wonderful. They have depth and emotion. These are characters that you can easily picture as real. Ms. Bradford's description of the town of Heavenly Pennsylvania draws you in and makes you want to set out on a road trip to visit. One word that I would use to describe this series and this short story is heartwarming. One of this author's greatest talents (in my opinion)to write her stories in such a way that the reader feels as if they have been transported and were part of the story as opposed to just reading the story. If you are a fan of this series, don't miss this short story. It is truly heartwarming and filled with a lot of emotion and wonderful characters.
